Rekkof gets govt grant for NG Fokker demonstrator!

The Dutch government’s press agency releases the schedule of each of our ministers. This wednesday (the 10th) the minister of economic affairs will hand over a government grant to Rekkof. This company intends to build the next generation of the Fokker F100. Journalists are welcome to ask for invites at the E-mail adress mentioned below.

The press release mentions nothing more then this. My guess would be that the grant will be used not to build a new plane, but to convert an existing F100. The original prototype, the PH-MKH, would be the most likely candidate. It is still owned by Stork/Fokker and the SOSTAR-X project it was assigned to was closed a few months ago. If succesful then new production might be possible.

Some more details have come out:

  • There will be a 20 million loan allocated to NG Aircraft (new name of Rekkof) by the ministry of commerce. However this loan will be subject to EU approval;
  • The EU approval is considered a formality only. Official approval expected around june this year. Then NG Aircraft will go fully public with their plans;
  • New avionics, engines and wing;
  • Wing will now include winglets (it really does seem that these days no modern type can go without them);
  • Three regional airlines where reportedly very interested. KLM is for sure not one of them. Neither does NG Aircraft consider getting them as customer a priority, due to past experiences (then still as Rekkof);
  • Some 90 million euro is required to get fase one of the ground;
  • The second fase will require some 500 million euro;
  • PH-MKH has been confirmed as the demonstrator.
