Release Unit Type A3

I found this last year – wondered what it was, what it was from and whether it was any use to anyone ?

I am guessing that it is an electrically activated bomb release ??

Thanks Elliot and Mike- I have opened the casing and it is a lovely complicated (twin solenoid) piece inside.

There are no other markings.

As there were a great many Oxford parts at the same site – it may be that is where it comes from – we are likely never to know for sure.

Hi Brian

It looks like an electromagnetic release unit from a light series bomb carrier – used on many aircraft that carried small bombs and for training etc.

It looks like a bomb relase mechanism as you say and I am almost sure that when other members of the forum see it you may be deluged with offers to give it a good home. If the markings are readable you might do well to post them along with the pic as it may help people to decide if it is any use to them if more than one type was in use. As the year of manufacture is stamped on all items of service equipment, knowing that will also rule out certain aircraft.
