Relics at Brixham Battery

These relics at thew Brixham Battery museum ….The prop is (according to the plaque) from a Dakota and was retrieved from “near the French Coast”.

The other “reduction gear” is apparently from a Bristol engine possibly a Centaurus…..location of retrieval unknown.

Thankyou.I wondered about the prop – looked a little big for a Dc-3….I know nothing about engines (other than the basics) but thought the pics might interest some readers.

Certainly that is Bristol reduction gearing but not from a Centaurus. It is going to be from a Pegasus or Mercury engine and it has a two-to-one reduction ratio, which wasn’t common, so that should narrow the aircraft types down.

The First prop has Wright Cyclone reduction (so not Dakota) possibly B17.
The second is not Centaurus, but could be Taurus, pegasus,Mercury or Perseus.
