Remembering Today: The Bomb Dump Explosion at RAF Spilsby

Picking up on the Lancaster thread, today, 10 April, marks the 70th Anniversary of the bomb dump explosion in which ten personnel from RAF Spilsby and No 207 Squadron were killed. In previous years, a small Service of Remembrance has been held at the memorial site at exactly 8pm – the time of the original incident.

This year will see two RAF Spilsby Veterans, both of whom were stationed there at the time of the explosion, laying wreaths at the memorial. The Service of Remembrance will be conducted at the main memorial site. However, there will also be a commemoration of the incident at the Monksthorpe Church Memorial site, which is little more than a couple of hundred yards from the seat of the explosion.

All are welcome.
