Well, once again they are holding a Remembrance service and giving free entrance. I would like to suggest a meet up of forum members, and propose that each of you invites a veteran along for a day out. I have asked George along, and he’s well up for it. I don’t know if anything is flying, but I do know that it would be a nice day for saying thank you.
Perhaps we can organise something on top of just a museum visit between us? I’m a tad tied up at home right now though personally, but what sayest thou all?
I’ll go and have a chat to Johnny and Babe on the 11th, then if I can get the day off, have a pint with Francois on the 14th at the Red Lion.

I shall be at St Clement Danes for the service, and the Battle of Britain Historical Society wreath laying at the statue of Lord Dowding afterwards.
Any other BoBHS members from here going?
If I get some good photos I’ll put them up on the forum.
Geoff.

Thank you Merlin. Its much appreciated but the earliest I could get to stevenage is 11.00 am.
No problem. It is a shame GNER don’t wake up on Sunday mornings.

You eating Merlin?
Probably just a beer and a natter.

I’ve got the Yak booked for Sunday morning, so may be able to make a brief visit, weather permitting.

Me too, will probably be there in a different Yak just before 12.

I’ve just negotiated my visit to DX for the remembrance service.
Benyboy. If you can get a train to Stevenage on Sunday am, I can get you to DX, the Red Lion and back to Stevenage. Your call.
I was in Belgium this week and was very surprised to find that they did not observe any form of silence at 11:00 yesterday. The group I was with (15 Brits in all) managed to observe two minutes without nattering, as we stood at Bruxelles Midi. All the other folk simply went about their business. I thought the armistice would have meant something to them also. Apparently not.

They’re also cooking 6-8pm. I reckon if enough of us can confirm a meal at, say, 5 pm they’d sort us out. Answers on a postcard here and i’ll call them tomorrow to see. Definitely 4 in my party to eat – who else wants food if possible?

Guys, just to add a further inject, I’ve just phoned the Red Lion to ask what their hours are on Sunday; the bar is open from 12.00 to 22.30, but they stop serving food at 14.30.
Jules and I will continue with plan A (lunch at the Red Lion, and then possibly duck in to DX briefly in the afternoon) unless you guys decide to stay inside the museum until throwing out time, and then saunter off for a quiet beer. That’s fine with me, but please do let me know so I can jack up alternative scoff arrangements for us, as we’re likely to be bloody ravenous!! 😀

Hi Snapper. The first train from York is 9.00 am which would get me to Cambridge for 12.30. I would miss the service and would not have long at the museum.

Benyboy, where are you coming from and will it get you to Cambridge if you leave early?
I think perhaps a sunday evening meal at the Red Lion after being booted out might be more sensible than lunch, looking at the timings of the service and allowing for plenty of time to have a look about the museum etc (George want’s to do that and isn’t as active as he was 60 years ago.) Otherwise he’ll miss a lot of it and we’ll all fall asleep full of beef and booze. What dost thou lot think?
Looking forward to it – hope to see you all on Sunday.

You’re a star. Thanks Rebecca.

Ah, a revival!
Yes, i’ll be there. Please do polish Ashley, if you don’t mind – most appreciated, and there’s a pint in it!
Mobile is 07905 850671. I’ll be taking George along, plus dad and a friend or two. George will be looking around the museum, so Sunday Lunch and a return to the museum might be a good idea, after a quick look beforehand.
Had a go at the polishing today, will go back tomorrow lunchtime and finish it 🙂

Further info on Remembrance Sunday at Duxford:
The Museum will be observing the two minute silence at 11.00am, then at 12.15pm there will be a short Service of Remembrance conducted by Peter Smith (a name not unfamiliar to some of you) According to Jim Hutchinson, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Duxford, “If the weather is fine the whole of this service will be conducted outdoors adjacent to the H4 memorial stones. In the event of poor weather the service will commence undercover in the north west corner of H4. In either case the service, supported by both Sawston Youth Group Band & Buglers and 2461 Sawston Sqn ATC Cadets, will conclude with wreath laying by IWM, DAS and Burma Star Association representatives in the area of the memorial stones.
Then at 12:45pm, Peter Smith will lead a short wreath laying ceremony inside the Royal Anglian Regiment Museum (on the lower level in the Land Warfare Hall) Representatives of the Burma Star Association will be present.
At 2:00pm, there will be a ‘Remembrance Dance Display’ by Cambridge Regional College in the AAM, followed at 2:30pm by a talk on ‘The American Air Museum as a Memorial’.

Whittlesford..BUT
Any one know the nearest train station to duxford. how far away ect.
Whittlesford is nearest and is on the Cambridge/Liverpool St line. Its about a mile (at a guess)to the airfield.
Better bet is likely to be to go to Cambridge and to use the free shuttle bus from there.
