I liked the comment about being able to deadstick a space shuttle into Florida from half way across the Pacific, so a Fury right over the airport wasn’t too difficult. 🙂

If you look at the quaifying run, nothing was open at the tailwheel. The open part was during the heat race where the backfire occurred and would have been corrected when Hoot landed assuming no damage to the door.

If it HAD been damaged, they would have just replaced it for the final on Sunday.

Makes you realise just how valuable good video and photographs can be in assisting post event .Glad no one was hurt.

I wonder how much faster it would go if the tailwheel retracted.

The Wright 3350 was capable of over 3500HP depending on level of boost

70″ in qualifying, according to the post-qualifying interview with Hoot in the video.

The Wright 3350 was capable of over 3500HP depending on level of boost, – injected carb and perhaps water/methanol injection as well. She was only 1.24L larger than the Centaurus – so practically the same engine size. Thanks for the good quality video link.

Darn good job the screen didn’t bust. 😮

232 was a former North Weald resident, back in the day
