Replica of Napier-Heston Racer Planned

While I was surfing to find piccies of a Lysander with a gun turret (to no avail unfort) I came across this link of some people planning to build a replica of the Racer..

I believe the Napier Heston Racer was an extremely beautiful aircraft and if they can pull it off would be a great addition to any airshow.

Have a look http://www.fgc2k1.com/mds/

Unfortunately, the pics don’t work on the site but I did find this pic (http://www.jaapteeuwen.com/ww2aircraft/pictures/gallery/Page6.html)

I thought that too. Must have some vicious torque on take-off…ala Tempest !!

2 quotes from the referenced text:

“I know that the engines are out there.”

That answers your question, Archer!

“Six minutes after opening the throttle, he had made a wide circuit at about 20 mph, throttled back, and set up for the landing approach.”

20 mph seems a bit slow for a world speed record contender!

To be honest i would rather prefer to see a airworthy Napier Sabre go into a Tempest!

Is the replica going to be made in the UK or the USA?

Would be interesting (to see and to fly!)

The question is though: Where will they find an airworthy Napier Sabre????

Could need a brave pilot to fly it as the orginal only made one flight 12/6/40 and was “damaged beyond repair in a forced landing with overheated engine and inadequate elevator control after 5 minutes”! Would certinally be nice to hear a Napier Sabre unless they are going to use a nasty modern engine??
