Replica's made from Tiger moths

The good old tiger moth has been used many time in films to represent other type’s ie ww1 a/c. in some cases this has simply been a coat of paint, ala Blue Max, but in other cases they have been either faintly discised or some times heavily modified. Even, as in the case of GASML’s an mine’s BE2 just tiger bits used and modifed to speed construction.
Just wondering what pics, if any, were out there.
Started with a pic of the pfalz replica built for the Blue Max by doug bianchi, belive it or not there is a Tiger Moth fuselage under there!

The Viilma is flying from Wevelgem in Finnish camo.

Indeed Stieglitz is the right man for info.

one of the guys has made contact with the DH Club for the manuals.

I have yet to do so, looking for the blueprints.

Thank you.

The Viima is still in Belgium I believe.
JV aka Steiglitz will be able to give you a fuller update.
If you do a seach on this forum you should find some pictures of her and information. (A regular VAC attendee was G-BAAY in her time)

Chapin – Have you tried approaching the DH Moth Club?

Tiger Moth blueprints

I know that this is not directly related to the thread’s subject theme, but I need to ask this:

A group of friends in Uruguay, are going to restore a DH.82 but lack -as usual in Latin America- most everything they need.

I am looking into the possibility of donating a set of blueprints if these are not too expensive.

Could any one here, point me in the right direction? Suppliers? Someone who can sell me a copy of these blueprints?

Thank you.

Willy. if you look through this thread you will see that the DVII rep was made for LOA but not actually used in the film. Two Tigers, G-ANNF and G-ANLC were slightly modified and used.

well that was a bloody good 504 rep – thats all I’m saying – never heard of a Viima before…I had a distinct recollection that the film was rubbish – after watching it again by jimney it aint that bad – some of the dogfighting is rather good!

TT

It got 6.5 on the IMDB.

As written yesterday night, Lawrence of Arabia was shown on French TV yesterday night.

As the sales started this morning, I had the opportunity to view the record this morning.I must add that it was the restored long version of the movies.

Both airplanes definitely looked stock Tiger Moth except for the amrking and don’t seem to be related to the previous posted photograph.

Comments welcome.

I’m sure the Avro 504 in Aces High is a taxiing replica. Something tells me it’s at Brooklands now.

The 504 was indeed only a taxiable rep, it also appeared in the BBC series Wings. Nice side veiw of the Tiger DVII but me thinks the colour is wrong?

What, with that script and those replicas?

Let’s just say that it was a product of its time!

Mind you Neil Williams’ ‘crazy flying’ as the rookie pilot is a highlight.

Here’s hoping that ‘Flyboys’ will set a new standard when its released later this year and you never know, Peter Jackson must be planning something for all those WW1 replicas he’s amassing down in New Zealand!

Yes, you were dead right on the Viima. G-BAAY was sold to Belgium in 1989. Anyone know where it is now?

Ben,

the ‘Steiglitz’ you refer to was actually a Viima, G-BAAY, which i think has now gone abroad somewhere.

Anyone else think that Aces High was one of the best WW1 films ever made?

Can I shift this to Aces High Aircraft?

As i got the DVD for Xmas – I appreciate that the SE5s are Stampes there appears to be a genuine 504k (luuurvely) but the baddies confuse me –

Certainly saw a Tiger pretending to be a Pfalz and a Jungmeister if I’m not mistaken – is the radial engined red biplane a Stieglitz? If so which one?

All t best

Ben

Whilst on the subject of WW1 aircraft replicas, does anyone know what happened to the full size SE5a serial F943 that was seen at Sywell in 1977, in a part constructed wingless condition.

Septic.[/QUOTE]

Did anyone catch Lawrence of Arabia on C4 today.

For anyone who did and was wondering about the aircraft used, take a look at this great thread. This profile of the Fokker DVII (Tiger Moth conversion) appeared in the booklet ‘Croydon Airport Flypast.’

Thats a real full size Tiger Moth! Its listed as a Replica because it has been assembled in recent times from Spares rather then having come off the DH production line! not the same as the home build kits available. Also means you can opperate it on the PFA!
