The Friday before airshow days at DX are well worth a visit with arrivals and display practives all day together with private arrivals so busy all day. You may also see a display that is interestingly different to what will be in the show. There was a bit of a queue when we arrived just before 10am. The weather is bright sunshine with hardly a cloud with a very gently breeze. So far most of the activity has been the pleasure flights and private arrivals plus a Harvards and I think a Yak.
A 3 ship Spitfire display has just been up with SM845 piloted by John Romaine, I think, returning with a bit of misfiring and calling for his service team to be on hand.
A Corsair is now going up for a practice.
Very sunny causing the usual problems.

Thanks Brian, I was confused because I saw the Tad Dippel image on Facebook and thought what was in the photo happened.

Thanks, just the shot I have been waiting for and also a big thanks to all the owners, pilots and rebuilders who have made this possible. Now if only the makers of the new film Hurricane can raise the finance to get these sorts of numbers onto the big screen.

There was no chatter because there was no Hurricane tail chase, they flew in formation.
A nice ‘formation’ shot from the weekend by Tad Dippel on his Facebook page. 🙂

I for one certainly expected more chatter about a Hurricane tailchase of six aircraft!

Thanks to all the picture sharers of this event, I had a feeling it was going to be a good one. Now if this could be seen as a starter for the coming RAF 100 shows i really need to plan my trip South next year.

It certainly was the ‘closest of calls’ and I suspect that more footage will emerge. I even wondered if there was a cockpit cam in Sharkmouth? Very, very lucky.

Watching the Mustang video brings a lump to the throat and makes the pulse race. I don’t think I have ever seen tragedy avoided by any narrower of margins. I am so very glad that it went the way that it did and that all parties are home safe with their loved ones.

Pity the debate and speculation about Saturday’s incident has muffled any reports on Sunday’s show. The weather was perfect and despite the cancellations I thought it was a marvellous show. A sky full of Hurries was really special. Lots of fine display flying particularly the Naval and Russian segments. A thoroughly enjoyable day.

Does anyone know what the technical issue with the Hawk and Bearcat was ?
Just curious what the pump gizmo they attached the Hawks engine is for ?

Holy Cr@p !
That looks like about 400 feet Even Rob Davies would have a job exiting at that height.
That was horribly close.

A big bird strike? Let’s just say that they were very, very lucky that it was not much worse. That video is a lesson for everyone involved in formation flying.

So, not a bird strike then?!!

It appears that they were extremely lucky to get away with a damaged prop and tail plane! The relative motion of the two aircraft was much more significant than I’d thought based on the description!
