Describe the layout please

Great photo … just out of general interest, can someone please describe the layout? NSWE? Which is the main runway? What are the semi and fully circular shapes near the bottom of the photo (dispersals?). Are any of the visible buildings of the era? Thanks D

Here`s another thing to look out for when overflying Sudbury, if you are below 1000ft!

Hi Adrian;

The result of a lost youth spending too many hours browsing Roger Freeman’s “Airfields of the Eighth Then and Now” when I should have been chasing girls!

Edit: Fencher24: Nice photo by the way! I can’t help wondering how many decades, or even centuries into the future that these old airfields will still remain visible on the landscape from the air. My feeling is it will be a very long time. Even those that have completely disappeared still leave a ghostly shadow in the crops.

Regards;
Steve

Many thnx for the quick reply!.
Indeed I am always impressed by the many former wartime fields in the UK when I overfly them.
I heard the saying that the Americans thought that the UK was the biggist aircraft carrier in the world during WWII 😛

Having had a quick look on Google maps, I reckon Steve has got it.
