Req: travel tips for Duxford & Old Warden.

Hi!

I will be traveling to Cambridge/Duxford/Old Warden next weekend for the airshows and I have a couple of questions.

1. Will there be a shuttle bus between the train station in Cambridge and Duxford on the show days?

2. What is the best way to get to Old Warden on the sunday (from Cambridge)? We will be 12 persons, and would like to walk as little as possible.

Thanks in advance!

I am now in the process of calling taxi companies enquiring about booking a minbus for traveling to Old warden on sunday.
But, the Shuttleworth collection website says the flying starts at 2pm, but gives no time for when the display ends…
I know this might be difficult to answer, but does anyone know approx. how long the display will be.
We’ll hate to book the taxi too early, so that we miss the final part of the display…

I would say book it for about 5:30 – 6pm.

Moggy has a good point, it would be worth looking into the costs of hiring a minubus between you all.

If I understand you correctly and there will be twelve of you at Duxford and at Old Warden I’d suggest you pool your resources and hire a minibus.

The price of rail travel in the UK is such that for the fares you will jointly spend you could probably buy one and still come out of the deal better off 😮

I believe it is At Taxis with the Mini Bus. You would have to book one as Biggleswade station is not very big.

If you are going to get a train from Cambridge, then you need to change trains at Hitchin and catch northbound train on the Peterborough line. Biggleswade is the 2nd stop after Hitchin.

.

I would check for engineering work at weekends on the railway http://www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/

These are the Taxi Companies that operate in Biggleswade
AT Cars 01767 600399
Maurices 01767 316438
ACE 01767 651414
At least one of them has a minibus (I’ve seen it but can’t remember which company it was!!!). I would assume booking is essential for both journeys.

1. I believe there is.
2.Train fom Cambridge to Biggleswade and then a taxi.

Thank you for all the helpful answers.
I found this pdf-document on the IWM site: IWM AirShow Courtesy Bus between Cambridge and Duxford

About the taxi between Biggleswade and Old Warden: Do you think it would be fairly easy to get a taxi at Biggleswade on a sunday? I’ve never been there, but I’ve heard from others that it is a rather small place…(dare I say: middle of nowhere..?)

For my sins i have never been to Old Warden, But as to Duxford there is a shuttle bus from Cambridge Railway station to the Airport, They leave from just outside the station, Normally just near the Roundabout not at the normal bus stop.

I think shuttle buses run from Cambridge station and the park and ride site at Trumpington to Duxford.
Cambridge to Old Warden is about 30 miles i would guess and no real direct route so hiring a mini bus for 12 people may be the only way.
