Request for Information: Wasp XS570

Hi all,
My first post here, so apologies if this has already been discussed (I have done a search on the forum, couldn’t see anything).

Was HAS.1 XS570 was last noted in 2004 on board HMS Plymouth, moored in Birkenhead Docks. Does anyone know what happened to it after the Warship Preservation Trust, who owned both the Wasp and the ship, went in to administration in Feb ’06?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Just a little information:

XS570 was cleared off production in July 1964,flying from White Waltham.
She will be 47 years old next July.
First flight was probably done by either John Morton or Ron Gellatly.
There might be a bit more information available if you would like it.

Request for Information: Wasp XS570

Hi Chris, MH.

Just to let you know that I was invited to visit the ship on Thursday 9th Dec for a couple of hours.

Considering she has not been given any TLC for very nearly 5 years, she is in remarkable condition. As you can see from this photo taken on 20th Dec, outwardly she is looking rather shabby, but this is just cosmetic and would not take a great deal to put right. Below decks is in surprisingly good condition and again would not take a lot to sort out.

And in answer to your question; the Wasp is still on board, tucked away in the hangar and she too looks to be in very good condition.

Regards.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the Wasp is in a museum somewhere but I could be completely wrong. From what I remember of the Plymouth the hanger had been adapted so it could no longer store the helicopter so Im guessing its not on board.

These guys might be able to help you though, they have been valiantly trying to save HMS Plymouth for years and look like they are on the verge of a breakthrough.
