Restoration Project required

I would like to start a new restoration project of a WWII aircraft. I have a small group of friends that would like to start a project much like the one being done by the Sally B club. We feel that it would be great to get more aircraft from this era flying again. Can anyone provide me with information on aircraft which seem to be in need of such treatment, there must be hundreds of aircraft all over the country at airfields and even in peoples sheds that deserve to be restored. Information on restoration projects in the SE would also be very helpful.

Many Thanks

Trumper, sounds like you and I have similar ‘vehicular’ problems…I used to carry around a drip tray in the Jeep too so as not to leave an oil slick behind when I departed from a friend’s house or over at my parents, sometimes even just in a parking lot if I was gonna be there a while….the old saying as far as Jeeps go (lots of them leak oil) is that it’s just marking its territory, kinda like a wolf…and the other goes (although this is for round aircraft engines) that if it’s not LEAKING oil, you know it’s OUT of oil!

Got the valve cover fixed last summer and now it leaks a lot less….but it still leaks, just part of the personality of the Jeep, I guess…

At the ACE Cafe recently, the upcoming events board had details of the next all-Triumph day, and owners were asked to bring their own drip trays……:D 😀

LOL,you’re correct there, when i rode into town or work i carried a drip tray with me,very embarrassing,i think there is a bit more work need doing on it.
Time, money and total lack of expertise on my part means she sits in the garage,oh well, maybe one day:(

No, no photos of the Jeep, wish I had some stored on here (my scanner’s on the fritz)….just imagine a dark blue Jeep with the words ‘Ridge Runner’ written across the hood on both sides in red and yellow…with occasional cancer here and there that needs fixing…but it’s a good 4 wheeler and my daily driver….

Good luck Warby. If I had enough money and was a bit older I’d loved to have helped. The more older planes in the sky the better.:)

Let me know what you’d charge….

Sounds like restoration would kill the Jeeps character !! , things get too noisey ?? turn up the radio , oil leaks only show that her heart is still pumping !!:) Any photos ??

Sorry back on topic,Warby 001 can you give us all some idea of what you can realistically undertake, finances, knowledge, availability, workshops , specialist restorers and volunteers?
You have asked a VERY open ended question, 🙂

Hmmnn, yes, quite……

Though, just seen the widow of the McDonalds empire has just left £800+ million to the Sally army in her will……

Pity she hadn’t been a warbird enthusiast………

But surely you would need something to start with that had an identity otherwise all you would end up with is a hugely expensive authentic replica.

Oi!

I was being serious about the Walrus.

Warby ‘might’ be a lottery winner, and that is a really important project that needs finishing.

You are just jealous as it’s in GREAT Yarmouth not LOWestoft 😉

i meant it as in if you have enoth money for a typhoon project, i would look at Hawker restorations to make parts for it. Its a case that anything can be built, its just the cost!

if you look at what flugwerk has done making FW190 parts, its a shame that a Typhoon isnt being built.

Who says he is after anything that grand? Perhaps an Auster or something at the lower end of the scale is more what he had in mind.

Welcome Warby, we are nice really.

(Graeme – do you mean that there is a Tiffy available? How much and what is there?)
