The latest in Australian P40 restoration projects got another step nearer to flying yesterday following completion of engine runs. The project which has taken four years to-date under the care of AiRecrafters in Dimbawooga, New South Wales is a first for the company.
Little known, AiRecrafter looks set to make a name for itself following this high class restoration. Not only has the restoration been completed on schedule, it was also done on budget !
Built using best parts from two airframes, and one original wing, (the other is a new build) the P40 has been painted as ‘Gotcher’ the personal mount of local resident Lt P.S Taker, who was shot down on his second combat mission.
Picture shows the second of engine ground runs…hence no cowlings…and graphicaly portrays the reason why the P40 required such a large scoop under its prop for the filters, taken by AiRecrafters boss and self proclaimed P40 ‘nut’ Gary Remlin

Well my mate was on the team that carried out the Major on the BBMF Lancaster and he said that it’s powered by four big Laser 4 strokes!:p

Well dangit, I thought I would hear news of another P-40 restored to flying status.
Thanks a lot Geedee…..that was just cold.
I dare say I’m the biggest (hopefully not the only) P-40 nut on the Flypast forum.
Neat picture though.

Yup, made it all up. If I was into restoring Warbirds, I would probably use that name for my outfit
