Retired Tucano's – I'm getting old !

The Disposal Services Agency have just added Gazelles to their list of available aircraft, and more surprisingly Tucano’s are now almost ready for disposal !

Could these be the first Tucano’s to grace the ‘preserved’ scene ?

And given that they have all been rotated through Shawbury for long periods of storage at various times since being delivered to even up maintainance life I would imagine that they will be sold off to other air forces rather than being grounded.

I should imagine if they are anywhere near half decent they will end up abroad with foreign airforces.

I don’t think they’ll be a “Tucano Heaven” web-site launched from here, that’s for sure 😀

It’s an interesting and compelling irony , that i have not found much of a connection with the latest generation of Grob and Tucano aircraft, in the same way that some don’t feel the same way about Jet Provosts and Bulldogs, yet they hold a special place in my memory of the RAF.

Useful wake up calls Sniper UK, Stringbag and Pierrejpc, they’re all going to be historic one day !

In the late 80s I worked in Holywood Co Down and watched the Tucano development aircraft being put through its paces,my son was born in 87 and last year as a cadet got a flight in one at Linton its making me feel old.

I’m sure they’ll stick one on the gate at Linton in any case.

Hope one ends up at Elvington. Spent most of this Wednesday there. Most enjoyable, beauiful weather, sun shining not a cloud in the sky.
Theres an idea, buy a Tucano and give it to YAM.

I don’t think we are at that stage yet, i can only imagine these are early batch Tucano’s from the late 80’s, or accident damaged maybe ?

When the aircraft identities are clarified, all will be revealed i’m sure.

I’ll drop a line to the Military Forum guys, once i’ve put my asbestos underpants on, (they’re a fiery bunch over there are’nt they) to check on the delivery schedule, further orders etc. see where we are with the JP replacement..spit !

Are they planning on replacing the Tucano with anything?

I still remember the vitriolic argumants that went on over its choice back in 1984.
