Retro liveries

Ive never understood why some British airlines don’t do some retro liveries.

For example Thomson using their Britannia 1980’s-2000’s on a Thomson aircraft. Monarch maybe painting an A321 into the 1970’s livery or Thomas Cook maybe painting a 757 into Airtours International livery from around 1991.

It would be nice i mean especially as it’s now 20 years since Airtours launched.

Aircraft have to be repainted after heavy maintenance (C and D checks) as they get stripped down to the bare metal anyway.

Sorry to be picky, but the C checks I know of do not involve re-paints.

Quite right, mate.

They also operated the East African Airlines flights into LHR for a while.

Neil says “hello”, by the way. I saw him at MAN earlier. 🙂

I’m sure I’ve seen Aer Lingus “lumps” in Heathrow, many many moons ago.

I have seen a couple in LHR also seen a at least one in Manchester , early 80’s on diversion from Dublin

Horrible aircraft only fit for cargo.

Aircraft have to be repainted after heavy maintenance (C and D checks) as they get stripped down to the bare metal anyway. Most airlines introduce new liveries or special liveries on aircraft that are being re-painted after such maintenance so the cost is negligable in this regard.
If the airline is getting new builds delivered, then invariably one of those gets the special livery as it’s getting built. Just like Aer Lingus did.
New build deliveries are also one of the ways to introduce a new fleet livery, with existing aircraft getting repainted and previously described.

However, pulling an aircraft from the schedules just to repaint it is expensive, yes.

Perhaps because it’s costly to even get the normal liveries onto an aircraft and for the fact that Britannia doesn’t exist any more …

Aer Lingus used to put 747’s into BHX at one time, probably late 70’s or early 80’s? It was always for the Cheltenham Festival, usually Gold Cup day IIRC.

i think that 1-11 of courtline was Pink not lilac….

I’m fairly sure that Court Line had a pink 1-11 and a lilac one.

i think that 1-11 of courtline was Pink not lilac, but yes it would be good to see an A380 in there livery and with a full 800+ passenger load!!!!!!!

That Britannia MD11 looks a real treat in that scheme. Just imagine a Court A380, could result in sensory colour overload:eek: I wouldn’t mind betting that if Court were still here, that they would now be operating a high density variant of the A380……lilac anybody?;)

the Courtline 1-11 pastel shades used to be lovely to see, but i think the Tristars were only in yellow and orange
