Revell 1/48th Spitfire IX/XVI

Has anyone built this kit?

I saw it today in my nearest modelling shop and briefly considered it before deciding to wait until next month – or possibly asking for it as a birthday present. The box photos showed quite a nice cockpit, too.

Armorama.com has this to say about it:

Well maybe not exactly “new”, but very welcome, nevertheless. There’s been a lot of speculation recently about which manufacturer’s Spitfire Mk. IX / XVI would be inside Revell’s new 1/48 scale release, with people trying to guess by the number of parts whether it would be from Hasegawa, ICM or Italeri/Occidental.

Well, with the parts in front of me, I can confirm it’s Hasegawa’s Mk. IX; and very crisply moulded as you’d expect from that manufacturer.

Revell Germany have produced new decals for 2 RAF aircraft:

Spitfire Mk. IXc, 43 Sqn, Klagenfurt, Austria, June 1945.
Spitfire Mk. XVI, 308 (Polish) Sqn, Varelbusch, Germany 1945.

Both aircraft carry Type C wing roundels, so they’ll make a change from most wartime Spits.

The price in the UK is £13.99 – so Revell’s release is cheaper than Hasegawa’s original and should be warmly welcomed by Spitfire fans.
