Reworking 1950/60s Airfix Artwork

In recent weeks I have been keeping myself busy with small artistic projects that involve minimal financial outlay, and I need the generous help of others to finish of my current endeavour.

While my era of Airfix model making was influenced by the phenomenal artwork of Roy Cross (1960/70s), I have found that replicating the Type 2 Header Cards from a previous generation (1950/60s) as being both therapeutic and ideally suited to my level of PhotoShop competency. I also find these header cards both attractive and their ironical 1950s style very true of the period.

The original Type 2 Header Cards were either secured on eBay or scanned ‘n’ emailed by kind and generous enthusiasts. And this is where you might be able to help? I’m looking to expand my collection, and I need the generosity of others to scan (600DPI) similar Type 2 Airfix Header Cards they might hold in their collection. Can you help? Please email me if you can. I’m hoping to include sailing ships, tanks, more cars and more aircraft – all Type 2 Header Cards – including:

Spitfire XI
Me 262
Hawker P.1127
Supermarine S6
Auster
Sopwith Camel
Whirlwind Helicopter
Control Tower…

While I try and remain true to the original, I don’t mind adding detail, as my recreations were enlarged with printing in mind (12in x 28in). Having problems with some of the pilots especially. I also see these images as very much work in progress – with individual header cards constantly being improved upon.

Need to finish this project by the end of September. Want to spend the winter months learning CAD (probably Q-CAD).
