RF-4E(S?) and the mach 3 story

Hello

I was taking with a friend at duxford by the SR71 and we got into talk about other aircraft that went mach 3 during the conversation he told me that a israeli RF-4 broke mach 3 during a mission over lebanon or syria during the early 80s he thinks it was the (S) version (no not the navy one), i at the present do not believe him as i have been a phantom phanatic for years and have never heard this before is it true or is it just fantasy ?

The other problem is if it went mach 3 did it melt ?
