Yesterday I paid a visit for the first time in 12 years to the memorials to Captain Stroud and Kynoch at Dollymans Farm Shotgate Essex. These airman had taken off from Rochford and Stow Maries respectively on the night of 7th March 1918 to intercept a German raider and subsequently collided with each other crashing on Dollymans Farm.
My concern is the current state of these memorials. I do know that the Blake Hall museum did some renovation work a while back but nothing seems to have been done since. I have heard that the council wanted to remove the memorials and place them somwhere safe but this was vetoed.
These memorials are only a 20 minute drive from where I live in Billericay. I would be prepared to do some renovation work myself, i.e cut some grass, pull some weeds up and even repaint Stroud’s propellor base, time permiting. The problem I have is would I be able to do this without breaking some law.
The bottom line is something needs to be done.
