I hope you are not one of the people who complains about the traffic problems at Duxford.
Nope, no problems at all. I just turn right towards Duxford village were a friend of mine lives, and then together walk to the airfield! 😀

I hope you are not one of the people who complains about the traffic problems at Duxford. I’m 58 now and I still get up at 5 AM for a Duxford show, on the road for 6 and arrive just after 8. As far as I am concerned an early start is just part of the airshow day.
Here here! For me it adds to the experience. When i was a young boy, i knew it was airshow day because dad would wake me up when the birds were singing and we’d pack everything in the car and set of into the early morning mist! 😀

*Yaaaawn…* 😀 I can’t remember getting up that early for an airshow, but I sure have in the past. Getting too old for that now, hehehe
I’ll be on my way to Duxford at 8 am tomorrow morning (100mile drive) and think that’s pretty brave! :p

[QUOTE=BIKEGTS]Personally, I loved RIAT 2005. I drove from west Wales at 5am, and parked very easily at Fairford. I decided to leave at 5.30pm and chance it……..within half an hour I was back on the M4 heading home QUOTE]
I live just 30 mins from Fairford and i get there bout 5ish too. I have a cuppa in my car which is parked just a 100 yrds from the entrance and then i join the queue and sit down till the gates open. im happy, i dont have to rush like an idiot trying to get to the best place, set up my chair then go off to do the photos without 100s of the crowd trying to get the same angle. I then have time to do abit shopping then sit down for the flying.
If you dont like RIAT dont go! and like Danohagan said, nice lighting effect on the focus.
I left the car park at 5ish and within 40 mins i was home…traffic problems? nope

Nothing “new” at Duxford, though it wasn’t a bad show at all. Highlights (for me) were the Seahawk, IAC Spit and the Harvard duo. Having five Hurris and twelve Spits was good too. Great flying overall, especially the Hurricanes did some neat close formation stuff. The desert coloured Hurri did some really nice low passes with the wing’s top towards the crowd. Good for photographs! Seeing the Hawk 75 in action again was nice too, but it wasn’t nicely flown for us photographing lot, showing the undersides in each and every pass 🙁
Weather was rubbish though and being a photographer it partly ruined the enjoyment of the show for me. I hope for you that tomorrow is better.

Southport is a good one, and then you can do the next one at Duxford. (seeing as the have more in a year than Southport do!)

Sasdly, those of us who live on the edges of the UK have to travel hundreds of miles for events. I drive or motorcycle once or twice a week to the London area (I’ve recently managed eight journeys to the Proms, plus airshows etc). I hate traffic jams or delays, so always travel in the wee hours.
Some advice I need for Sunday………..Southport or Duxford? I haven’t been to a display at either venue, and they are both about 4 hours drive from west Wales. What do you think?

I’m disabled, and there was an excellent free scooter awaiting me to whizz me around.
I’ve also been to Southend, Clacton and Eastbourne this year.

do what I did after after years of this sort of stuff, never bother to attend again.
I now only go to Old Warden
That makes two of us!
…although I do occasionally attend other airshows for variety’s sake 😉

Moved to GD

A mod will be along in a bit to move it.
Moggy
PS: A motorbike would be a good investment. Best way in to events with traffic problems.

I now only go to Old Warden where my money goes on SVAS membership, I volunteer there at weekends and the toilets and restaurant although somewhat busy on flying days are never crowded or dirty.
You can always see nicely too and generally the people are polite and mostly well behaved. Last Sunday during thee minutes silence for Steve Young one could hear a pin drop.
I do make exceptions, Little Gransden, Chailey last year and a few of the smaller shows but the big ones–forget it.
My advice–vote with your feet.
Cheers
Andy

I thought this section was for airshow photographs?
Teething problems methinks.

With the quality of pix. from RIAT05 posted here (and otherwise on the forum) –
Why did I lug that big bag of lenses around?
Next year I’ll just lay back in the grass and enjoy it!
