Here is the start of my pictures from the Tattoo this weekend. I have quite a few but I’ll start with the Static stuff first……..
It was pretty early in the morning when I took these so the Warbirds were still tucked up in bed……

Busy chap. Very good summary for those of us who couldn’t attend, thankyou 🙂
Your welcome. I may have gone over the top with the uploading but thats it now, no more worth showing really. It was a great weekend though and apart from the cloud Sunday, the weather was kind too. I’m now looking forward to RIAT 2011 but next time I’m going from Wednesday to Monday and hopefully with a newer better Digital Camera with a bigger lense.
Thanks for the kind comments 😉

Thank you. No the light wasn’t good Sunday and we were lucky to see the KC-135 because it went Tech on Saturday. It was ment to be doing an Air to Air Refuelling demo with the US C-17 that was there and even though the 135 flew Sunday this still didn’t happen because of the low cloud base at the time but both aircraft did some nice flyby’s for us. The A400M is quite impressive and manouvreable for its size.
Here are a few more…………

Well I don’t know what you were worried about, your pics are great Rob!
I can see that the light wasn’t on your side on Sunday but it is great seeing the display teams with plenty of sky behind them as you can appreciate the formations better than when pictures get too close in on individual aircraft.
Really like the A400 pics aswel and nice to see the KC-135 flying.

Hi Rob, I’m trying to stress as much as possible that I do like your shots, just hoping what I said might come in handy sometime, but like anything creative it is purely subjective.;)
Oh it does and like I said I’m grateful of your comments and thanks.
Also don’t worry about your pics not being on par (in your words) upload them anyway, we would like to see them.:)
I’m in the process of sorting out the pictures I took saturday from the ones I took sunday cause Saturday I was sat quite far from the crowd line with friends and only really took shots of the Reds and the Patrouille de France and a couple of others. Couldn’t get anything landing or taking off cause too many people were in the way, Sunday I was on the crowd line at the 27 end though so I was close to the action for landing shots, anyway, they will all be uploaded by the end of the night 😉

..but hey, if people don’t like them, I won’t be annoyed about it, cause I do 😉

BTW, I still regularly use my knackered old 5 megapixel 5x zoom compact (see my abpic link below) which has been dropped countless times.

If these are taken on both days, where are the sunny shots from Saturday and did you reshoot all the warbirds after the covers were taken off?
Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, I didn’t take many shots on Saturday cause I wanted to watch the show through my own eyes for a change and not the lense of a camera all day, especially knowing I was going to be there Sunday too and no, I didn’t take any after the covers were removed cause I was sat on the crowd line watching the show when they were and they all flew straight back to their homes straight after they performed Sunday so couldn’t.
Sorry…….

Cracking shots Robmac, looks like you had a great weekend.
Do you mind if I can offer you some advice, please tell me to bog off if you don’t agree!:)
On your static shots you have occasionally chopped off noses (Tornado pics), tail fin tips etc (wing and tailplanes extremities being chopped off don’t matter so much).
This is generally seen as slightly displeasing to the eye, especially chopping noses off, it is either best to have these features included in the shot OR to actually frame the picture more tightly (or crop in a computor programme afterwards) so that you are chopping more of the plane out of the picture, but the eye is drawn to the main subject, which incidently you have done really well in some of your shots.
If it is case that these are film prints, and that the processing shop has chopped the bits off (frame differences between camera and printing kit is quite complex!) you might need to stand a wee bit further back or zoom out a bit next time.
Please don’t take this as any form of critiscm of your pictures and I hope it helps, I learnt the hardway.:)
I will be the first to admit that I am no where near on par with other photographers on this forum but my camera also is no state of the art piece of equipment as its a small compact 4.0 Megapixel with a 10x Optical zoom lense built in camera, not really the best camera for Airshows as you will see from the flying shots I took with it later when I upload them, but static shots are fine for it. I think the issue with the ‘choppin off’ that you refer to is purely me trying to fill the lense with the aircraft and not giving myself enough room either side in the frame to allow possible movement when I press the button and is something I need to address in future and please dont worry about the comments. It is better to be told than not and still upload images that people are not too impressed with so thanks for bringing it up.
I was a bit reluctent about the flying shots being uploaded cause like I said they are not on par, but now you know the camera I use I am going to upload them as they are, cause I like the pictures atmospheric appearance. Close up shots on the ground are great and also in the air, but thats all they are, just close ups. In my shots I think they actully give a presence of action about them, you can see what they are doing but hey, if people don’t like them, I won’t be annoyed about it, cause I do 😉

Hi,
Which day did you go, and how early were these photos taken?
CM
I went both days but these were taken on the Sunday early in the morning and later in the evening after the display. The earlier shots were taken from around 7.40am onwards and the evening ones from around 7pm.
I hardly took any shots Saturday cause I just want to see the whole show through my own eyes and not the lense of a camera all day, although I wish it was the other way round with the weather being so much better later in the morning onwards on Saturday, but hey, still had a good three days mind!
