Due to wet weather, state of car parks etc.
Could be a shambles on Sunday, with twice as many people trying to pile in.:(

An impression of the Fairford camping ground dated yesterday…

Except – thats not the camping ground but ‘Park and View’ – it shows graphically though the ground water problems on the airfield.
I was on Kempsford Campsite and it was nowhere near as bad as that!

Couldn’t help but be amused by the sight of a drowned aluminium step ladder there…

With the ATC we did a local village fair last year and only a bit of rain feel and most of the cars got stuck we had to proper tractors come to remove 3 fields of booged down cars
I think the IAT directors made a good decision, big loss ££ wise tho

I do feel sorry for all those that bought Saturday tickets but having seen the pictures of the standing water I don’t think they had much option other than cancelling the show.
I remember skating around in the mud at Biggin Hill Air Fairi and Farnborough (my first) in 1968. I got soaked through at Farnborough and although the display went ahead as far as possible it did mean that my first farnborough is memorable for all the wrong reasons.
I remember attending Wings and Wheels at North Weald with a trade stand in the early 90’s and it rained so heavily on the Sunday that they had to get a tractor to tow out most of the vehicles. It would have been impossible to tow out everyone at a huge show like Fairford so maybe the decision is the right one.

I still intend going, don’t think there will be a huge influx from RIAT, there are many jet fans who regard piston warbirds as the work of the devil.
Some would rather fry their own heads in garlic, than be seen at Dux or OW.
As for tomorrow, I shall ignore the bloody forecast……..looking at the METARS for the Cambs area, it didnt seem as bad as forecast:o
I’m sure we will find out in the next few hours as the first of todays crowd return from their Duxford mission.

What’s the weather like for Duxford on Sunday?
Pretty good…………:)
By: kev35 - 12th July 2008 at 16:47
While it’s disappointing for those who were going to Fairford I fear that some of those who were planning on going to Duxford tomorrow may now experience difficulty in getting in because of an influx of refugees from RIAT.
With that in mind, it’s very doubtful that it will be worth me making the effort to get to Duxford tomorrow.

Could the financial hit mean that we have seen the last RIAT?
Nope. Far too much big-business behind it.

When I called in at Newark Air Museum today they had seen some benefit from extra “re-directed RIAT visitors”, but nothing like the numbers that descended on the place when Waddington cancelled their Sunday show in 2007.
They may also benefit tomorrow as they are also hosting the LLA Members Day, see here http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/news.php

So, 558 has two displays in the bank;)………just hope they aren’t wasted on the champagne quaffing freeloaders on the Farnborough trade days:rolleyes:
This is a great loss for the RAFBFE,the weekend revenue gone, plus sales of the DVD.

Sunday cancelled
Just through on the tattoo site and on BBC News 24.
By: kev35 - 12th July 2008 at 16:25
Well, the RIAT website stated that a decision on Sunday’s show would be taken by 4pm today and that the information would be posted on www.airtattoo.com but they didn’t say WHEN that information would be made public.
Edited to add that it’s just been announced it’s off tomorrow too.

Been dry all day here 60 miles away, though that dioesn’t mean much if it’s peeing down there of course, or if the land just isn’t draining…even if it’s sat and dried all day, surely it would really had to have gone some to be suitable for thousands of cars and people tomorrow I’d have thought?
Not my cup of tea as a show anymore- way too big, and far, far too expensive- but, a real shame for those that did want to attend nonetheless.

there will be an update a 4pm, on whether to cancel tommorow
