I went back from a 70-200 2.8 to a 70-200 f4 because of a similar frustration. My 7D did not like the former but now my pix are razor-sharp – very close if not better in some instances than my fixed 200 f2.8 – and my back feels much better carrying a smaller and lighter glass. The fixed 200 is for sale now.

Remember, mate,that VR/IS doesn’t replace technique. I’m not poo-pooing yurs but maybe its worth considering? By the way, I’m not necessily the best judge! Nice shots, though! RR
I know what you are saying but the fast jets were taken with a shutter speed of 1000sec, so even though i’m a doddering old fool, that speed should take care of it.

Out of interest what camera do you use ?
It’s 50D + 70-200 2.8 IS L lens, so my shots should be pin sharp:mad:
