A fine actor, primarily known for his comedy but with a wide ranging theatre, film and TV career from Shakespeare and Chekhov to the Good Life.

And many get it who don’t deserve it. And some turn gongs down, of course. In my view, rightly.

His quickfire humour and chirpy interjections against Margot are comedy classics. Why was he never Sir Richard Briers?

He was both a CBE, and OBE I believe. However it never ceases to amaze me, that some great actors and entertainers never get the recognition they deserve, whilst other, and in my view, less deserving individuals do. One recent, non show business recipient, really wound me up, but that’s a topic for another day, and another thread 😉

A great shame. Every time I catch one of the repeats of The Good Life, I always feel that it represents a much more ‘innocent’ time. RIP Richard, you’ll be missed:(

The same way as all the drunk drivers who I arrested over 30yrs.
As I used to say to them, when they kicked off for being nicked, “Show me the chap, who held the gun to your head, and forced the beer down your throat, and I’ll arrest him too”
Don’t forget our troops in WW2 were sent ciggies, by the Government. Also, folks of my age and Richard Briers, were smoking, because nearly everyone else was.I and many others will remember when one was out shopping, you could walk around shops with a lit ciggie, everyone who smoked did.
Anyway, I am very saddened at the fact that he has died, I still watch the repeats, even if I have seen them many times previously. One of the best.
Jim.

Another great actor passes. Never realised he was a smoker at all. How do people justify and defend this habit?
