McAleese SAS hero passed away in greece on friday,he was in his early 60s.
mac was one of the black clad figures on the Iran embassy balcony.

For those of us of an age to remember it, the assault on the Iranian Embassy was one of those moments in life which are etched indelibly into the memory. I remember the normal programming being interrupted and assault taking place. A group of very brave men, who, by the nature of their activities, tend to remain anonymous.
Certainly a family in which courage seemed to be hereditary.

Mac was the first man on the balcony and seen waving to sim harris the BBC reporter to get down,seconds later the frame charge blew the window out.
His son was Killed in Afghanistan in 2009,”Sergeant Paul McAleese 2 RIFLES was killed in a second bomb attack while trying to recover the body of a comrade”

Very sad to hear of his death – he always came across as a really funny and interesting guy on his TV appearances.
Wasn’t he the one who got hung up during the drop from the embassy roof?
