Mr Fred Newman – the ‘Newman’ in ‘Davies and Newman’, otherwise known as the ‘Dan’ in ‘Dan Air Services’ passed away on Friday 19th October.
Mr Newman, as all the staff in the airline called him, was a perfect gentleman and one of the nicest, politest people I have ever had the pleasure to interview on a number of occasions. He was probably the last surviving ‘founder’ of the post-war UK independent airlines.

A great name from our aviation history, RIP sir.
As far as I am aware another great entrepreneur and gentleman, the British Eagle founder Harold Bamberg, is still with us.
