RJ Mitchell RR

I was wondering what ever happened to RJ Mitchell’s RR car, that was there when the prototype Spitfire first flew.

The attached link has a picture of the car I believe

http://www.southernlife.org.uk/mitchell.htm

Does anyone know if the car still exists, or even what the reg number was?

Thanks.

That radiator certainly has the look of a Wolseley about it, although I cannot find the model with a google search.

Hi all,
Interesting thread, attached is a scan from a section of a 1930s vintage P.C. of the Woolston works, note the nearest car parked outside.

Alas the definition and the group of lady’s obscuring the number plate, often wondered if it was R.J.’s, or just a waiting taxi, cars not my strong point!

Chumpy.

It’s either a Wolseley or a Morris, maybe a taxi or more likely a visitor’s car.

Thanks Mark 12. could well be. I remember reading somewhere it was a RR, but that may not have been correct then.

Either way, can anyone confirm what car Mitchell owned and if it is still around?

According to the biography written by Gordon Mitchell, RJ Mitchell had 3 Rolls Royce’s they being; 1928 20hp (GYL25), 1932 20/25hp,(GLR31) and a 1936 Bentley 3.5 litre (B87HM); I’m sure if they are extant the Rolls Royce owners club will know about it .

The car shown is definately a Riley, it may well be a Monaco but the pic is’nt very clear.
I always thought that RJ Mitchell ran a Rolls 20h.p. but I stand to be corrected!

Looks like a Riley Monaco or similar to me.
