RN Phantom modelling question

I build RN aircraft in 1/48. Time for a Phantom. Intending to build the Hasagewa FG1 but cannot find suitable decals. Surely there must be loads for a subject like this. Comments on the kit welcome too. I tend to build alternate ‘orrible/comparatively easy projects. Currently building the dreadful Smer shagbat with scratch built interior and engine etc, next should be virtually out of the box to give me a rest!

Hasegawa tend to release their models several times with different colour schemes/transfers, so it’s worth keeping up your search and another boxing may well crop up. However, lack of choice is a problem with working in the minority scales. I think we can probably expect a 1/48 Phantom from Airfix, but not for some years yet.

Try looking / asking on www.britmodeller.com
Shame you choose the Smer Walrus, Airfix are releasing one later this year.

They released their Sea Vixen as I was half way through the Dynavector vac form, and I heard about the new Walrus half way through this thing. Any requests for what you would like me to have them release next?

Tried Hannants. I cannot find a search term that brings up any RN Phantom decals, but their search facility is idiosyncratic at best. Found the kit on a US site and it offers a choice of two 111 sqn RAF schemes.

Maybe I should start a vac form Scimitar so as to have Airfix announce one.

The SMER Walrus is the Merit kit from the 1950s, having been passed from hand to hand in different countries. I’m not surprised to find it in poor state.

The best source for transfer sets in the UK is Hannants, which is certainly worth a try. After that there is Flightdecals of Canada, but I’d have thought that Hannants would be better for a British Phantom.

From what I can see the RN kit is not available and box art on Hannants web site shows RAF scheme with zero further info that I can find. Suppose the sensible thing is to ring and ask them.

If it’s a Hasegawa FG-1 kit, snibble, then there should be a decent choice of good quality decals with the kit.

There are, as you suggest, lots of other sheets available. Try RAM models’ for an unusual selection of FG-1 decs: http://www.rammodels.co.uk/index.php/cPath/71

Googling will pull up many more.
