RNAS Culdrose Air Day 2007

Wow, this is a date for the diary! Culdrose is celebrating its 60th anniversary on the 1st August with a spectacular air show.. this year with a distinctly historic theme. I wonder when the last Anson operated from the base?

Some impressive warbird content in the provisional list!

They usually have “on the field” parking (it’s a big place) – be sure to join the correct queue on the way out, otherwise you can spend hours in the narrow back lanes trying to get back to Redruth for the A30.

And it’s the only show I’ve been to with a grandstand, which is very welcome – I think it’ll be a fairly modest price for a seat, payable on the day.

Blue Badge holder (disabled) cars get very good access too.

For those not in the area, best to get there by train to Camborne, then by bus to Helston. The list is not exactly exciting at present, but Culdrose shows are an unknown quantity and previously there have been surprises wheeled out by the School of Aircraft Handling and maybe there will be some foreign Merlins there for training.

Ahh, good, I was worried Culdrose wasn’t going to be “on” this year, because they were very late announcing it, and their usual website doesn’t work (or didn’t – havin’t tried yet).

– ahh, it’s working now http://www.airday.co.uk

Decisions, decisions,Cornwall or the Isle of Wight for the second week of my summer holiday?

‘Of course I didn’t know the Classic Flight, was going to be here love, oh look I left my ear defenders and hi-viz vest in the car, what a coincidence….’

I just happened to be staying on Holiday at Mullion (a few hundred yards down the road from Culdrose) last year during the exact same week as the Airshow….Blimey…what a coincidence :diablo:

Unless of course, you call an (aerial) cab 🙂

Im not certain how much help we are given that you are starting from Hampshire, but for those put off by the trek from ‘up country’, you could always leave the car in Coventry, and arrive in style! See www.classicflight.com

As ever I would hesitate to include this ‘plug’ if not provoked, but as you brought up the subject of the long journey 😉 .

Always a good mix of classics and exotic heavy metal!

I guess the Wasp pair are the two from Kennet aviation….?

Which have displayed at the show before, I think they are two of the more distant specks in the mighty balbo (2003 ish)

They do a very nice pairs display, something you don’t get to see every day.

I’ve always wanted to do Culdrose, trouble is it would take hours to get there by road, even from Somerset!
