RNAS Yeovilton – Wed 6th Apr – 18 images

To those that still remain interested in more Yeovilton shots, attached is the best of the action from Wednesday 6th April.
Following comments made, I have now numbered the images/captions.
On the promise of better weather than my first three trips, I arrived at 0845hrs to the grey atmosphere that I had become familiar with!

1. I had been informed that FRADU’s first sortie would leave at 0855hrs, but I just got to the fence-line to see XX159 taxi out unexpectedly…

(2 to 3) The pilot of XX281 wears the FRADU badge with pride, as his aeroplane is sandwiched between XX169 and XX217 for a 3-ship departure…

3. http://fradu.dyndns.org/2011/vln/20110406-003.jpg

(4 to 7) …and indeed, it remained the same during the 3-ship split recovery an hour or so later!

8. Lynx activity was present!

9. The customary visitor made an appearance. What a visitor though. Something I thought I’d never see again.

10. Onto just before midday and a change of position to Pyle Lane, the usual FRADU suspects depart as another 3-ship. XX169 and XX281 would continue onto RAF Valley for a FRADU tasking.

11 & 12 Sea King ‘S’ comes out for a flight, whilst Grob ‘S takes off for one…

13.A lonely XX217 returned to base just after 1300hrs, and landed following a couple of circuits.

14.Whilst XX159 reappeared about 30 minutes later following its solo sortie.

15 to 18. The egg whisks then came out to play to finish the day!

Comments welcome as always.

Thanks for looking.

What’s the situation with the Sea Hawk in #16?

Great shots as always and thanks for sharing them all.

It is in open store. From what I was told at Dunsfold several years ago they planned to get her flying, but a lack of necessary paperwork made the project unviable.
A real shame, as out of all the ‘spare’ Sea Hawks used in the restoration of WV908, it was the best of the bunch by far.
Looks like it’ll end its days as a spares ship.

Thanks for the comments 🙂
