The RNHF Swordfish Mk.I W5856 wears a scheme representing another aeroplane from 1939, but carries it own serial.
The Blue Diamonds-liveried Hunter T.7 G-BXKF, owned by Delta Jets also carries a similiar scheme; painted to represent XL571/XL605 but wears its former serial XL577.
Nothing wrong with retaining the serial either – BBMF have done that for decades.

Well, as these aircraft are still in military service, one could say any color they are painted in is an “authentic” scheme :p

I think the Sea Fury operated by OFMC was painted to represent WH589 when that arrived.

It just has to be an authentic (ie: correct) reproduction of the scheme.

I see nothing wrong with an aircraft flying in scheme from another airframe that it never wore in its life.
Neither do I. Nor do I consider that for a paint scheme to be considered ‘authentic’ it has to be original to the particular airframe in question. It just has to be an authentic (ie: correct) reproduction of the scheme.

I see according to the latest edition of ‘Loop’ the Flight now has a Seafire as well.
The Seafire flew from North Weald to Yeovilton on Friday for a short stay in connection with a flypast over HMS Ark Royal this coming week, but it’s not kept in RNHF’s hangar! LOOP (which I believe has used at least one of my photos in the article, which I haven’t seen yet) appear to have made many erroneous statements – one of them about the Battle of the Atlantic where “everyone died”, or some such wording. They actually mean the Channel Dash!
Just goes to show you shouldn’t believe everything you read!

i remember reading on this forum some months ago that a new sea fury was being financed by somebody on behalf of the RNHF. Rumours aye, can’t beleive them for a second;)
love the paintscheme by the way, it makes a nice change every now and then to refresh a warbird, and gives me another opportunity to change my desktop on my pc. it pisses me off that people have to find fault with them.
keep up the good work and look forward to seeing you guys this year.

The people here are discussing the paint schemes and not ‘complaining’ about them. A good proportion of the people on this thread are actually responsible for applying warbird schemes and helping owners research them, including Warbird Colour Services mentioned on the RNHF website.
I was refering to comments such as this.
Well done Lee! Between us we’ll get the UK’s warbirds painted authentically!!
Whilst I agree in principle that it is nice to have an aircraft in an authentic paint scheme, I don’t regard it as essential and I see nothing wrong with an aircraft flying in scheme from another airframe that it never wore in its life.

There appears to be an unhealthy obsession with paint schemes at the moment. I think that as Vintage aviaition enthusiasts, we should be grateful that there are individuals and organisations that are prepared to put the money into restoring and flying these aircraft. Rather than complain about paint schemes, lets congratulate them and allow them to spend their funds on things that are needed and not replacing a perfectly good paint schemes.

Fantastic News
Lee,
This is really exciting news. I can’t get to forum much at the moment, but had to reply to this one.
The colour scheme change is a ‘dream come true’. I’ve alsways thought the dark sea blue finish is beautiful and she VR930 looks the business – WELL DONE!
The news about the 2 seater is even more amazing – complete with Centaurus! Hats off to the donor, and best of British to the RNHF!

That paint job……………………
Is absolutely superb:cool: 😎 😎 .
Well done Lee and all the team.’930 looks fantastic,I’m an overspray maker by trade too so I know just how much work goes into a superb paint job like that.
The new 2-pewer looks pretty tasty too and I must agree with most on here though, she would look well with trainer bands.
As to a formation,well…..if we could only persuade Nelson to bring VP441 over along with that other chap in the States who owns a Firefly and put up a five ship along with the two Seafurs and SX336 then we’d really be talking Fleet Air Arm.
Many congratulations and a big thanks also to Lieutenant Gotke for saving the SeaHawk’s bacon. He really did win the cigar for that very good bit of flying.
Now,if you need anyone to spray that silver with yellow bands on………………………….

Looking at the pictures of the 2 seater, is that another Sea Fury parked next to it,
and does anyone have any idea what the timescale for the TFC Fury is, and finally, when was the last time that 4 flying Sea Furies were in one place in this country, should that ever happen in the future, it must be at Leg-ends 2008.
Going back over the last many years of airshows I can only think of Furies as fairly solitary beasts, even when there were a few of them about.
Lovely colour scheme on the single seater, it would be interesting to see 2 of them in the same garb, otherwise the silver training scheme gets my vote.
This is the Sea Fury next to VX281. It’s N19SF ”Argonaut”

On the other hand, anyone wanting a different paint scheme could always pay for it themselves in the form of a donation, remember, if you are a UK Tax payer, complete a Gift Aid form so the tax can be reclaimed.
I personally am looking forward to the opportunity to see these two Sea Furys displaying together.
By: stringbag - 14th March 2007 at 16:03
That paint scheme on VX281 has been used for the past 15 years at least, but I imagine it’s been re-applied at some stage since then.
If the paint finish is in good nick, then it should be left until it needs replacing, or when finances allow it to be re-finished in a more authentic colour scheme.
The last Sea Fury duo display that I can think of occurred at Staverton in June 1989, when TF956 and WG655 flew together…
Long time ago 😮

I would think the repaint could wait – after all she looks immaculate and I imagine the RNHF resources are limited what with three Swordfish under rebuild, a Seahawk being fitted out and another Fury just having been painted!
Plus am sure the punters would enjoy seeing the T.20 in a ‘matching’ scheme for a few seasons before being delighted at seeing her again with ‘new clothes’… I certainly would….

Love the new scheme as the Korean one is a bit ‘old hat’. Two-seater – silver with yellow t-bands please – is there any other RN scheme?;)
VX301 was Sea Blue with Orange cowl and spinner with the Ferranti Flying Unit at Turnhouse, that would look very smart.
By: Phantom Phixer - 14th March 2007 at 13:55
Stunning repaint and what a change to sea (sorry about the pun) a military painted Sea Fury without the black and white stripes.
As for the two seater please add me to the list saying put her back in a silver with yellow training band scheme.
