RNZAF Photos

My wife was looking through some of her parents’ old photos and she found these. They are marked on the back “July 1970, Ohakea”. That’s all the info I have.

RNZAF Photos

The ORB for No.14 (F) Squadron, RNZAF states:

19 July 1970: …a Canberra led a formation which featured 1 Canberra, 1 Vampire and two A-4’s. The photographs taken of this flight disappeared, supposedly to turn up ten years from now to remind people what an aeroplane looks like.

..the Canberras were withdrawn in July 1970 while the last four Vampires were withdrawn from RNZAF service in December 1972.

Probably RNZAF Official photos. The one with the Skyhawk, Vampire and Canberra was probably the one taken when the Vampires and Canberras were finally retired and the A4K Skyhawk became the main fighter/bomber for the RNZAF. You can also see the old Fern leaf roundel which dates it as the Kiwi roundel came into use in I think 1972.
Sadly now the Skyhawks are gone with no replacement. Stupid short sighted Goverment!!
