Lets go back to 1961, when Sunderland flying boats were still flying in the Pacific with the Royal New Zealand Air Force 5 SQN in Fiji.
A mixed film in colour showing the flying boats on ground and in the air just before they were retired from active service.

Your information is incorrect Phil or Daniel or whichever persona you’re using this week. The film was taken during 1961 (as I have stated in the info I shared with the film) but that is not just before the Sunderlands retired. They continued to serve till 1967, after the introduction of the P-3B Orions. Sadly I have now seen another news source who has copied your wrong information whilst sharing my video. It’s so frustrating when people post misinformation.

My dad took these while in the merchant navy. His crew co-operated with a RNZAF search and rescue exercise, steaming in a circle to create an area of calm water for the Sunderland to land on. The Sunderland however had a mechanical problem, and flew back to base.
