Its nice, but its a lot of money for a stripped out shell… No engines, no instruments, one seat…. I think it’s expensive!
I still wish I understood the MOD disposal process… How is it that some aircraft like this Wessex go direct to Air and Ground, while other aircraft (like this Dominies) go via eDisposals?… Does anyone know?

Actually probably not a typo as it appears to be one short, I I won the lottery I would buy her, as an ex wessexer, I would love one.

Typo(s)!! 😀

Apparently it was offered to NAM earlier this week for £15k minus engine!
Just one engine or both Gnomes missing:D

I don’t believe that the museum was ever interested – to help answer another forumite’s question I was just reporting on a telephone call that was made to the museum last week . From what I understand this particular Wessex was “…..too good to turn down!”
The museum’s Wessex HC,2 XV728 has been tucked up nice and warm inside Display Hangar 2 since 2004/5 – it may even see a few visitors next week if we get enough cockpit openers out!! 😉

I’ve since been advised that the figure quoted in post #10 included delivery! 😉
According to my satnav, the distance between Air & Ground’s premises in Hixon, Staffs, and the Newark Air Museum’s site is approx 69 to 70 miles, depending on the route. (Shortest route – along the A50 via Uttoxeter, Kegworth and Bingham)
Surely, a little over £3,000 for 70-mile road delivery is somewhat steep? For three grand, I’d expect XV720 to be FLOWN in!
If you’re still interested, you could perhaps put in a bid of say, £10,000 INCLUDING delivery, and see if Air & Ground “bite”
Airframe seems to be in good condition, and there is some talk on the EvilBay ad about A&G being able to supply the parts for restoration for XV720 to fly once again (an engine would be a good start – the EvilBay ad clearly shows a large hole where the engine should be)

Wessex XV720 is now up for sale at Air and Ground.
Well, well, well…XV720 has now turned up being advertised for sale on EvilBay. Check the link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Westland-Wessex-HC2-XV720-Royal-Air-Force-Helicopter-/180813291595?pt=UK_CPV_Aviation_SM&hash=item2a194fe04b#ht_500wt_1109
Asking price is £11,940.00 – which (I expect) is not what Air & Ground at Hixon paid for it!

Any idea how much she is? Is it on their web site? I had a look but couldn’t see anything.

Cheers for the info. Hope she has a good future as she appeared in very good condition. No fading of markings or anything.
Could this possibly be the ex-Lyneham example XR528?

Yes it’s a 707. Window arrangement is fairly similar to VC-10 including the ‘eye brow’ windows, but the 10 has a centre pane. Even the taxi light is mounted in the same position.
Lovely looking exhibit.

Having a senior moment of confusion here, it is confirmed as the 707?:)
By: Tillerman - 11th December 2009 at 12:23
I was thinking VC-10 at first, shows how similar the two types can look when the right bits are missing!
Cockpit-window arrangement gives it away. But hey, I’v had a ramp job for 24 years, so I won’t blame anyone for not seeing such differences 😉
I’ve lightened the first picture somewhat, so you can see what I saw.

Its on its way back to East Fortune and will be sited in the “Concorde” hangar.

Wasn’t there a B707 fuselage in one of the Cardington hangars for smoke hood trials (I haven’t got access to my W&R here)?

Hmmm, this seems very enigmatic. It’s very rare that something spotted isn’t nailed down within the day.

Before anyone else rings me, no, this is not one of our moves.
