Robert Morgan/Memphis Belle

Well, while all you Brits are asleep, some unfortunate news has come to light..Robert Morgan, commander of the ‘Memphis Belle’, has died of complications he suffered in a fall…he was aged 85 years. Morgan commanded the B-17 ‘Memphis Belle’ during her 25 missions over Germany and became the first ‘official’ plane of the USAAF to complete that many missions, the ‘Belle’ and her crew were subsequently sent stateside to do a war bond tour.

Another great ‘Heads West’…godspeed.

Very sad news indeed.

But at least he is one of the very few who will always remain immortalised and remembered. We’ll never forget him and all the others he stood for.

Seconded, Dave.

RIP Bob

I feel lucky that I had the opportunity to meet him 2 years ago at a local airshow. He was even nice enough to let my girlfriend and I have our picture taken with him. Col. Morgan was a real classy guy. RIP.
