Latest update/photos posted in May: http://www.meiermotors.com/index.php/projekte/messerschmitt-bf109/messerschmitt-bf109-e-1?showall=1&limitstart=
Much of the structural work looks complete, and the overhauled engine is ready.

Robs was born right at the beginning of the Battle of Britain in June 1940 it does have some significance

Personally, I’m really hoping to see an original 109 fly. As I’m quite young, I missed the change to see Black 6 flying in the UK and my only chance at the minute would be to travel over the the FHC which is off the cards. I’d just love to see a 109 E flying around with P9374, that would be something special, wouldn’t it?
I hope you get your chance. I was lucky enough to see Black 6 on several occasions and it’s a totally different experience, sound seeing a proper 109. That engine sounds the complete opposite to the Merlin. Rough, German, purposeful, mean!

Maybe the 109 was part of the deal that let Meier have his spitfire VIII?
Mark – the Spitfire VIII is not owned by the Meier brothers, they maintain it!

And, why would they not…???

I think in the next few years the flying population should at least double, let’s hope that they’re all going to have pilots who know what they’re in for at the healm.

I wonder if that’s the Air Fighter Academy’s machine, as they have an early 109 under restoration in the UK and recently put their Buchon up for sale as, I think it was said, the restoration of their 109 was nearing completion.

It’s going to be a big project……..
I’m still waiting for someone to build an F, arguably the best fliers of the 109 series and very aesthetically pleasing, wasn’t the engine that Connie Edwards sold destined for an F in Australia, must have been a pretty serious project if they aquired such a motor.
Just as a little aside if you’ve never stood next to 109 while it’s running up then you’ve got quite an experience to look forward to, the way it shakes your whole body combined with the supercharger whistling away has to be felt to be believed, Merlins are no substitute! (they are great though!)

Miss Helen went over to Meier for some maintainence last year, so it doesn’t necessarily mean anyone’s bought it!
