Can’t find any threads on this forum, but the cross-channel flight by a Swiss aviator with strap-on wings is an event well worth reporting!
This brave chap strapped on two swept wings, with small rocket motors attached, and zoomed across the channel.
I have only seen a short report in my TV magazine, and think he was air-dropped. Be interesting to see details of how he landed, etc.
Well done, Yves Rossy.
Rather you than me, mon ami 😉

I read that he has plans to get an aerobatic team together-that would be gr8 to see!

I first read about him in Focus Magazine about ten years ago, taking his Mini Mirage for a spin (Flew the real thing for a day / Weekend job).

There has been vids of his for some time on YouTube, going down and round moutains. I found it by accident, looking at the “31 wheel roller suit” down the Swiss Alps video. Now he is brave!

Waited a few days to watch this historic event on National Geographic TV. It was well worth the wait. What a brilliant achievement by a very brave man. Yves Rossy I salute you.

I watched it live on National Geographic TV.
The wing has 4 Turbomeca Microturbo TR-3 turbojet engines, (intended for model planes or small UAVs).
The commentators said the wing weighs about 120 pounds and has a 9 foot span. The tips (about 2feet) folded to fit through the PC6 “launch plane” door.
The engines were started while inside the Pilatus cabin. The wingtips unfolded imediately after he jumped. Total flight time Calais to Dover was just a bit under 10 minutes.

I too saw a clip on the news, including the landing…not the most graceful!
He deployed an chute and tried to land on his feet, carried a bit too much speed into the landing and planted his face. He jumped right up though. How much did that contraption weigh? Top speed? Pretty cool though!!:D
