Hopefully forum member ErrolC will be along shortly with his photos, but Mosquito FB.VI PZ474/NZ2384/ZK-BCV/N9099F/ZK-BCV flew today at 1133hr NZ time, crewed by Steve Hinton and Warren Denholm, at Ardmore here in New Zealand. A second flight was made mid-afternoon. Bravo to everyone at Mosquito Aircraft Restoration, AvSpecs and Lewis Air Legends!

And no, before you ask: at 1133hr I was sat in front of my work PC making and taking calls, totally unaware! This aircraft was the only example to fly on our civil register until 2012, and last flew here in 1955.

Russell’s cousin Martin was alright with a bat, though.
He needs to mention Clarrie Grimmett for the full set.

It was the thought of Russell Crowe being considered an actor that added static to my receptors! :p

Congratulations to the team at Avspecs, well deserved. Nice to see a bunch of Australians winning an award against tough competition ! Australian actors like Russell Crowe, Australian bands like Split Enz and Australian racehorses like Phar Lap just go to show what a nation of champions can do !
Ha! That’s funny. You forgot about the pavlova though!

I think you’ll find Avspecs hail from the other side of the Tasman Sea!
Edit: Ah, ok, my Irony Detector has just come on line…

Well deserved! Congrats to the team.
I had a chance to look it over at Oshkosh. It’s as magnificent as you’d imagine.
It wasn’t the only DH to win an award. The DHC-1 Chipmunk I’m partnered in won “Best primary trainer” I was chuffed!

That is a thing of beauty.
Am I the only one, though, who prefers it without the rockets fitted?

I figured the reference to three regarded flyable aircraft in the USA.

It is great that they can built, dismantle, ship and rebuilt a Mossie in next to no time.

Hi All,
O.K. then four if you count the Bob Jens Mosquito C-FHMJ (VR796) but like stated has not flown since 2015 which it makes it a potential to fly IMPO. Apologies I should of added currently flying, which is such a shame after all that effort to make VR796 airworthy again…..
Just found this photo plus 11 extra photos of delivery and the start of reassembly of PZ474 courtesy of http://www.facebook.com/KiwiMosquitos/……:eagerness:

You’re right, the three built by Avspecs and the Bob Jens Mosquito C-FHMJ (VR796) in Canada – but it hasn’t flown since 2015 (and has been rumored to be for sale). Steve Hinton has time on three of the four.
By: ZRX61 - 3rd April 2019 at 20:12
I was under the impression there were 4? The 3 Avspecs Mossies & the one resto’d in Canada? (I don’t count Kermits hangar queen…)
