Rolls-Royce Griffon 57 / 58 Question

Does anybody know what the in-service modifications were that make a Griffon 57 or 57A into a 58? As far as I am aware, no Mk58s were ever built from scratch, they were the result of these mods.

Cheers

Thanks Mark. Sounds quite plausible.
I did notice that the engine has a rubber-mounted bracket which appears to be there to contain a broken drive-shaft to prevent it flailing about, but it is only 1/8″ alloy plate, so I`m not sure. I will check this out in the Shack powerplant manual.

Off the top of my head. 😉

The Mk 58 engine is identical with the Mk 57A except that it incorporates Mod 1126 and 1150, which, respectively, strengthen certain components of the aircraft accessory drive gearbox and introduce precautions against a sheared accessory- gearbox drive shaft. Mod 686, which strengthens the accessory idler gear in th engine wheelcase, is embodied in conjunction with Mod 1126.
