The RR Kestrel V has 25 roller or thrust bearings, originally manufactured by Hoffman, of which 24 are ‘specials’. These are no longer generally available and they are a vital component subject to wear. A group buying scheme is being proposed to allow the commissioning of new aerospace certified bearings, at manufacturer’s cost, to allow these engines to operate into the future.
