I have been given a merlin Rocker cover but it doesn’t say Rolls-Royce on it so did some have the name embossed on them and some were left plain? Thanks

Rolls actually stopped marking them about mid war, they only reinstated it again post war apparently, if an engine went back for overhaul they would also change them, weird isn’t it that during a war they would take time modify the covers.

Just received some info from peter grieve. The cover apparently comes from a mid to late war merlin 100 series engine from either a mosquito or a hornet.

The only number i can see on it is embosse d in to the cover on the rear stud pillar and it reads EE100.

It is also an often ignored or unknown fact that Ford Motor Co. built many thousands of Merlins, perhaps according to some sources, more than RR themselves.

Some Rolls Royce Merlins did, and some didn’t. However I believe all the RR Merlin covers have a flat section along the side on which the name could appear. Packard covers do not have this but all Packard have a number cast into a raised section on the cover near the rear rear end. See attached, arrow.

Packard built merlin engines do not say Rolls Royce. Nor do most wartime Griffon engines
