…or what a difference a letter “r” makes…
Hi,
the first picture is again from Histomil.com. It shows beautiful Polish pilot Sophie Mikulska at her airplane “Frido”. This is what the subtext says. Of course I wanted to find out what type “Frido” is. This time I searched my collection and found it. It is a Romeo Ro 5, out of Italy. But by a second look at my older picture I saw the registration of this aircraft is “I-FIDO” (sorry, I don’t know where the second picture is really from, but you can find it on the net).
Frido? Fido? Is it possible that Miss Mikulska’s plane in fact was “I-FIDO”? On the net I could not find any further information and hope you can help. If not, I hope you enjoy the pictures!
Regards, RT

Thanks for the link AA. Poor old Auster – must have been such a shock to the owners!

Not an isolated incident – see http://forum.keypublishing.com/archive/index.php/t-30892.html. It appears that the Alpha in this case was G-AGXU and that the cows had a dope habit!

Hi RT,
Sofia de Mikulska made a forced landing on 12th or 13th April, 1930 near Naples in a “bright-red aeroplane” which upset a herd of buffalo prompting them to attack. She is quoted as saying it was a miracle she escaped from the cockpit and got to safety before they gored the aircraft to death! Looking at the picture from http://www.giannellachannel.info/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/assalto-bufali-Garigliano.jpg it does look like I-FIDO
