Sad to report that Ron has passed away after a long illness.
A massive loss to the UK preservation movement, such craftsmanship is sadly getting more and more scarce nowadays. Condolences to forum member ‘civil aero’ and to the rest of his family.
None of us who attended the memorable ‘Tisted TwentyTen’ fly-in will forget that epic day in the sun.

I had many pleasant dealings with Ron in the ’70’s and 80’s with light aircraft and engine parts. I flew into his strip near Marwell Zoo, hoping never to have engine failure over the tiger enclosure. He was a lovely guy, and his knowledge of cloth aeroplanes, Gypsy engines and all things to do with light aviation, was second to none. His loss will be sorely felt by all who knew him. RIP Ron…

Very, very saddened to hear of Ron’s passing. I never got to meet him, but I have exchanged many emails and shared information with both Ron and Mike about our Avro Avian projects.
My condolences to ‘civil aero’ and his family.

Really sorry to hear this. Met him a few times when we helped out with information for his Mystery ship build. A real can do engineer, and a great loss to historic aviation.

I knew about him as my cousin is a silversmith & was making many DH models during the 80’s & always going to Ron to take photo’s & notes of the aircraft.

Very sad news indeed.

The number of aircraft he has been involved with would probably be longer than his obituary! Thanks for your dedication and condolences to his family.

Met the man a couple of times 1979/80 and was always in awe of his work. Thankfully we have much to remember him by.

Sad news. I met him at my fathers house when he and his son came to look at the Dragon parts. He will be missed.

I never met him, but condolences to his family and friends.
I lived for 18 years less than a mile as the crow flies from his workshop, and saw various aircraft taking off and landing from the strip over the years, my favorites were the DH 60 moths.

Sorry to hear that, met him 30 plus years ago, when my brother and I went to look at a DH60 that he was selling. Nice fellow, condolences to his family.

Ron and Aero Antiques are responsible for some of my favourite restorations of classic DH types – particularly love Puss Moth G-ABLS – but would also like to know more about history as AA don’t seem to have any sort of website that I can see.
RIP Sir and my condolences to the family.
