There is an excellent tribute available to listen to on the Radio 4 site here
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/comedy/
Called “And It’s Good Night From Him”, under the Britain In A Box series. It was made last year and then updated this week with new interviews. Simply brilliant to listen to.
NZ National Radio paid a nice tribute to him too the day his death was announced, and I was pleased that they aired something I’d never heard before, Ronnie’s single release that he made which was cut down to become the theme tune to Porridge follow-up Going Straight. It was played in its entirity and is quite long. I managed to record the somg too. yey!

What a wonderful tribute from Ronnie Corbett – “Ronnie was pure gold in triplicate – as a performer, a writer and a friend”

Funny thing is, I always thought that Porridge was set in a real disuded prison facility. When I found it was a set I was prettty amazed…..

Sad Sad news,
I like most people here are very very saddened by Ronnie Barkers passing, He was a Legend and for me he is my All-time comedy hero, A talent like his a doubt we will see again.
As Fletcher in Porridge he proved that even a prison setting could be funny and even now i feel they stand the test of time and are still funnier than most modern comedies are, They are special.
Another classic Open all Hours showed a completely different character to Fletcher and with Ronnie’s coaching it brought to the limelight another true Legend of Comedy and Drama in David Jason, I feel you can see Ronnie’s influence in much of David Jason’s work.
Of course with the Two Ronnie’s he had more classic moments as mentioned “Fork Handles” is legendary in itself, A great writer, great actor and a funny funny man, Never smutty( was always innuendo, never offensive) never using swearing like some other commedians do, And always in good taste.
R.I.P Ronnie Barker we will be laughing at you for many many years to come, Thank you for Brightening our lives.

I’m not slagging off Morcambe and Wise. they were good. It just seems that until recently, they got most of the limelight whilst the Two Ronnies were overlloked. The balance seems to have been redressed somewhat.

Dave Homewood.
I would strongly doubt that the modest Ronnie Barker would approve of you paying tribute to him by criticising two fellow comedians, also deceased.
Ronnie Barker was brilliant, in whatever he did. I have all of ‘Open All Hours’ on DVD and they are a delight, no matter how many times I watch them. Who can ever forget Charley Farley and Piggy Malone?
He will be much missed but then again we only have to look at the DVD’s or watch the satellite/cable channels for his genius to amuse again and again.
Regards,
kev35

The greatest comic actor Britain has ever produced. Hard call between Fletcher and Arkwright as his best characters, but as above, some of his wordplay in The Two Ronnies was awesomely funny and clever.
A man who was proof that great comedy doesn’t need to be crass, crude, sexual or profane.
It really is “goodnight from him”. What a legacy though.

There is simply no comparson between Morecambe and Wise and the genius of Ronnie B and Ronnie C. The latter were on a much higher level of intelligent comedy
Edit: Toned down because some thought my opinion was innappropriate

Sad news….
A very good comedy actor. Could play several completely different characters. Something other greats such as Eddie Murphy would do in later years.
Many may consider Morcambe & Wise as the best comedy duo in British comedy. However, for my money, the Two Ronnies were better. Why?
Because you had two good comedy actors who could operate indepenently as well as together.
For me, Porridge was Barkers best work. Said so himself. Still makes me laff. Open all hours was not bad at all either…

I am genuinely saddened by this. He was a comedy genius and has left the world an amazing legacy in his many TV shows, films, radios shows and his writing. He will be hugely missed – there were few who could ever come up to his level of skill with comic timing, wordplay and genuinely funny performance. No-one could better him, that’s for certain.
His outstanding shows will continue to be watched and loved forever – Poridge, The Two Ronies, Open All Hours, Clarence, The Frost Report, the Navy Lark (on radio), and much much more.
Along with Ronnie dies many of the greatest comedy writing names, Jonathan Cobbald,
Bob Ferris, David Huggett, and Gerald Wiley – all pen names he created so people didn’t make a fuss of him when he wrote sketches for The Two Ronnies!
