Rougham Airshow/Events 2012??

I really hope that the rumors are unfounded, and that the Rougham Airshow will occur next year. Only had ear to the ground recently that the events may not be happening next year.
What with living very close by I would really love to hear some positives about this or that things will be fine next year as their August show is one if the finest in the East of England after Duxford.

Dan Griffith’s display in the MK IX at Rougham was the best Spitfire display I have seen all of this year. Speed, low, tight turns, was epic!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

Totally agree – if I close my eyes I can still see it in my mind’s eye. What a treat 🙂

I’ve just signed the petition and forwarded it to all interested parties that I can think of.

Here are a few images from the August air show this summer:

Sad news if there is indeed no show at Rougham next year but Airshows are a risky buisiness and as Yak 11 says they have no obligation to put one on every year. Good news is that Sywell will be on next year on the 19th of August and its stacking up to be a good line up with some old favorites plus some new supprises.

I have a friend who works at the museum there & I do know that they will be taking responsibility for the 70th anniversary celebrations of the 8th Airforce arriving in the UK & arranging for some old timers to visit next year. I think that was the plan, so I guess the museum will try and make sure that happens. That’s all the news i know so far.

As there has been an Airshow for many years at Rougham ,the Estates Office should give an answer WHY there are no more events planned for Rougham next year ?? After all why cancel what was a very very popular Event , there must be some body who has decided they are not having anymore Events ,who would that be ?

Why should they have to give an answer? Just because there have been events there for a number of years doesn’t mean they are duty bound to keep holding events.

It would be a shame to see the events cancelled however

I do wonder if the incident with the departing aircraft clipping the tail of a parked aircraft has had an influence on the decision. Although there were no casualties from that one it isn’t too hard to imagine what could have happened.

I’m also very sad to hear this news, I camped at both air displays this year and at the second was lucky enough to be invited to marshall the General Aviation aircraft that landed for the day. This not only meant that I got to speak to all the pilots but also got uninterrupted access to Air Side during the day. Quite a privilege really.

Rougham was a super event for a number of reasons, perhaps principally for its ‘L’ shaped flight line which allowed aircraft to perform a more interesting display than at other places. This gave some great photo opportunities.

I wonder if it’s worth finding out who made the decision and writing to them, asking them to reconsider – you never know!

What a loss to our Summer calendar 🙁

Very disappointing news, Rougham was one of the gems of the airshow scene, along with other “intimate” shows like Sywell, Gransden, Old Buckenham etc. Great atmosphere, nice selection of participants and a lovely venue for display flying. I’ll be very sorry to see the show become a thing of the past.

seems to me that seperate people run the Air show ,does anyone know who runs the shows at Rougham ?? It would be a real shame if it all comes to a close

It would be a great shame indeed, for aviation fans in the viscinity, trade for Bury St Edmunds (the town must benefit), and for traders & display participants.

We went to the Main Airshow in August ,and we went into the Naffi for a cup of tea and cake ,and the chap and his wife who run the Naffi told us that the Airfield and Buildings were protected from Developers coming in and building new homes on the site , the Airshow had a very large crowd attending , seems to me that seperate people run the Air show ,does anyone know who runs the shows at Rougham ?? It would be a real shame if it all comes to a close

I only heard the news about next years events via friends & not directly from those who now run the Rougham estate.

Curious about this as I used to live on the Estate, who runs it now? I’m pretty sure Aggie didn’t have any kids & his brother played for the other team so I don’t think he had any kids either… However, there were lots of other relatives spread around the UK..

Edit, found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_John_Agnew,_6th_Baronet

George is his brother.

I was well acquainted with John Agnew & would often stop & chat in the street or at the shows with him & was very saddened to hear that he passed away. He was a very fine chap & did a lot of hard work to keep things alive at Rougham.
I only heard the news about next years events via friends & not directly from those who now run the Rougham estate.
I was just hoping to hear from any body who knew otherwise, or any possible news that other organisations would be getting involved for next year.
Whatever news comes, I wish them all the best & to those who run the Rougham Tower museum.

Aggie had a knighthood?

I thought this as well. Everyone else including local papers were referring too him as Sir John Agnew so I went with it! Followed the crowds. 😉
