Another bonus was the ‘Spirit of Kent’ Spitfire, as the best aerobatic display of the day.
I can’t resist adding my shiny B17 shot…

You’re absolutely right about the Spirit of Kent, I’ve never heard a spitfire howling through the sky like a mustang – I assume that it’s for the same reason of air fushing over the gun ports. Either way it was just the most amazing display. Rougham’s ‘L’-shaped flight line really adds to the pilots’ creativity.
The B-17 has to be one of the easiest aircraft to photograph at air displays – always extremely shiny, moves slowly and fills the view-finder even when quite a long way off!!
I love your shot of the Stearmans; I find multiple biplanes very difficult to photograph but that picture makes them look superb.
Cheers…

cracking shots wish I had have been there.
two good sets there from both Simon and Steven..
The air display was excellent for the venue. Also, there were some nice cars there too. Having the C-47 use Rougham was a bonus, it took off in less than half the runway length.

Last time I looked that was Marinell… unless I’ve put the wrong cowlings on the aircraft….
Great pics and thanks for sharing.
Damn it! Wrong picture… Thanks for pointing it out – I’ve updated the caption now to confuse all who read these two posts in the future 😉
Cheers!

Here are a few more from the weekend.
You can see a gallery of all Rougham images that I’ve uploaded here, and a few selected ones are below. It was a great selection of aircraft!

C-47 coming in over Rougham’s hedgerows!

Thanks to the USAF – But should they really have the afterburners on? Not that I’m complaining!!

Cheers for sharing Steven – I was there both days this year and really enjoyed the Mustang/Sally B display and the impromptu visit by the second Spitfire, particularly. Actually the C47 Dakota was another highlight, that’s the biggest aircraft to land on Rougham’s runway for many years.
I was lucky enough to be involved with marshalling the visiting aircraft as they came in on both days and as a perk of doing this, had access air-side and an uninhibited view of much of the display. As a result of this I got a reasonable video of the C-47 taking off as the two Steermans are taxi-ing out. There are quite a few other aviation-themed videos on my YouTube account if that’s your bag.
Here are a few of my stills from the weekend:

A tricky moment for the P-51 but recovered nicely…

A welcome and unexpected visitor…
