I can see what you mean and I suppose the aircraft could be used elsewhere on routes that would prove popular. They should serve Lisbon for a few weeks in summer. π Not that I care being a Scot! π

Newcastle is about an hour and a half longer on the train than Leeds but with essentially the same flight time which gives flying a significant time advantage.
Bare in mind that even if Jet2 offered advance fairs of zero, just charging taxes etc, the cost of a return would be around Β£20-25, the cheapest advance rtn on the train is Β£19 so there is no way Jet2 could compete on price. Given that it would be imposable to offer a cost saving or a time saving I really do not think that it would work.
Don’t get me wrong I would love to see a low cost service to London from LBA, and yes I would rather fly than get the train but for most travellers how they get there is not as important. The train is quicker, cheaper, and with over 15 services each way each day I donβt think Jet2 could ever make it successful.

Exactly RIP Concorde (Sorry dont know your real name!) I’m sure many many people would prefer to fly, and im sure as you say, Jet2 could provide some very competitive fares.

Yes, I agree with LBARULES, LGW would work I think. It isn’t easy at all to get to the SOuth of London from the North. Plus, our rail network isn’t great and why would travel by rail when you could fly and I’m sure Jet2’s fares would be very competitive if not better than the rails. π

Well you say that, but the Easyjet STN from Newcastle and Ryanair STN from Blackpool do very well. I definitly think that it is viable. Thanks for confirming that the J41 is certified into LCY Steve, lets hope all these happen!

I don’t think LBA-LGW is viable, it is quicker to take the train. Leeds To Kings Cross takes between 2 and 2 and half hours. The flight time would be about an hour but when you include check in times, waiting to board, the flight, taxiing at LGW, arrivals and baggage claim and finally getting the train to London you are looking at a time of at least the same as the train direct if not more. The only real advantage to doing the trip is to connect with other flights from LGW and for onward travel to the south coast of England. A large number of destinations from LGW are also available from MAN, NCL and of course LBA.
A LCY link is different as I think business links to the City could prove very successful.

The Jetstream 41 is certified into LCY. I think British Regional used the type from Sheffield City into London City.
As for the LCY and Frankfurt link i bvelieve these may be true. As the airport has been asking customers via the website with questionaires of the London and German links this would give further backing.
Bristol was operated previously by both Gill on the Shorts 360, and BA. Those were the days when BA had 5 Jetstreams based at the airport, and was one of the routes that was dropped by Eastern. The BRS ad LCY would facilitate an extra based Jetstream 41 unit.
bmi may well now have the spare Embraer equiptment to start the Copenhagen and Frankfurt under the star alliance banner. Previously there routes had been blocked by its partners as it would take traffic away from Manchester operation by SAS and Lufthansa respectively. However that said the Copenhagen run was previously operated by Fokker 70 aircraft, which at the time prooved too large for the operation. This too would have to facilitate another based unit…
Jet2 ops, all good lo-co destinations and all have been rumoured for some time now. The CDG run would in my opinion be supplimentary to the buisness product offered by bmi, much in the same way the Amsterdam run does with KLM, but the Amsterdam is also a hub feeder route, which wouldn’t apply to bmi. If the prices and timings are right then i could see all of the prposed routes working, Rome particualarly appealing to me! Again another based unit…
3 more based units at an airport with 17 stands. Based aircraft at present include 6x Jet2 B733s, 3 bmi F100s, 3 bmi E135/145s, 1 KLM F100, 2x Eastern J31/41s, plus the Britannia B762 and MYT/SSV A320. Where do they intend to park these aircraft!

Not in a way……. They isnt actually a flight to BRS, you have to go via IOM. I think what LBA spotter means is a flight that originates at LBA, lands at IOM picks up more PAX and continues to BRS.

I feel the same applies to the BRS link.
Which already exists π
By: LBARULES - 8th May 2004 at 15:25
Your having a laugh mate… The LGW and LCY links are JUST what LBA needs. They would acheive very very good loads (The Jet2 flight 2x daily would be ideal with travellers and day trippers) and the Eastern flight would be absolutely ideal, with the business travellers with Easterns fast track facility already at LBA. I feel the same applies to the BRS link.
By: Mark L - 8th May 2004 at 15:25
You already have a BRS link via the IOM π
By: Arabella-Cox - 8th May 2004 at 15:21
hmm i am spectical about most of those you mentioned…i dont think they will achieve very high loads, particularly LGW, LCY and BRS via IOM.

Hiya mate, great to have another LBA person here π
May I ask where you have heard these routes from?
Apparantly Jet2 want to operated LGW and maybe CDG but i’ve heard they are having problems with slots?
Rome would be nice, but I think maybe a Germany link (Berlin,Frankfurt,Munich?) would be better as they already have the Venice flight.
Frankfurt would be great with BMi, but didn’t they want to operate Copanhagen last year but it didn’t happen?
The Eastern flights are interesting, Bristol link would be great, (Though i’d sooner have a lo-co link) But LCY? Is the J31 or J41 licensed to operate in there?
