Having now recovered from my random illness last week I’ve started editing again and it is now time to upload the next leg of my trip. Previously I had reached as far as Phoenix. After Phoenix we took the Greyhound bus to Las Vegas and then the following day we went on a Grand Canyon tour, onboard Scenic Airlines.
This is the terminal at Boulder City airport, a small airport just outside Las Vegas. It is the main base for Scenic Airlines with their large fleet of Twin Otters.

It wa then time ot set off onboard N140SA, a 39 year old Twin Otter. A nice wideangle of our engine as we departed Boulder City.

Here is one of the most impressive wingviews I’ve ever seen as we crossed the Grand Canyon.

Here’s a nice shot showing our unique shadow whilst we are about to land.

The bright cabin. I had 1 B and C to myself, right infront of the cockpit.

And the worn out cockpit.

A couple of aircraft on the ground at the Grand Canyon National Airport.

And this was an overview of Boulder City on our flight back.

Cheers everyone for all your kind comments, and yes Paul I’m really looking forward to telling you the story properly in Bremen!
Cloud9, our Twotter did actually have the full livery. That plain white Twotter in the photo was another one. With regards to Hawaii…firstly I’m very jealous! We flew on Go! from Honolulu-Kauai, Hawaiian Airlines from Kauai-Kona, Island Air from Kona-Kahului and Pacific Wings from Kahului-Honolulu. We were meant to be flying on Aloha but they went bust a few days before. I’d just pick whichever airline has the most appealing aircraft to you…there’s no service to compare because the flights are usually half hour or less. My personal favourite was Pacific Wings because they fly the Cessna Caravans which only have 9 seats and buzz around at about 2000ft so you get a real good view of the islands. Also if you can catch the pilot beforehand they’ll let you sit in 1A or C, infront of the cockpit. Their website is http://www.pacificwings.com/pwexpress/index.asp.
Whiskey Delta, for all the window views etc I was mainly using the Sigma 10-20mm lense which is just perfect! Occasionally on the ground I’d use the standard 18-55mm and then I also had a 75-300mm on me. The expensive 50-500mm stayed at home!

Great pictures and trip log, thanks for sharing. What lenses are you using? Under your screen name I see 400D so I’m guessing this is the camera used?

Yet more excellent stuff there wannabe pilot, my favorite has to be the one of the shadow of the ‘twotter’ on landing, that is really amazing.
Only slightly disappointing thing though is that there is no livery on the aircraft, compared to their usual decorative pattern, as shown in the pic below!
Forgive me for jumping the gun and asking about Hawaiian inter-island flights before you have even posted them up on here, but I am going to Hawaii this Friday (am so excited, cant wait!:D), I just want to know which airlines you flew on what routes and also what spotting is like at HNL if you did any?

Very, very nice work indeed, Dan. It really is a pleasure seeing your work from such an amazing trip.
We can exchange stories of your round the world trip and my next visit to Russia over a beer or two when we fly to Bremen next month. 🙂

After a fun time in Vegas we then headed to McCarran airport for our flight to Honolulu, via Los Angeles. Here’s a couple taken from the terminal…

We then boarded our US Airways 737-300 N155AW for the flight to Los Angeles. It’s been a while since I flew on an older 737, and it felt really classic and retro inside! Here’s a wingview as we depart.

The classic cabin.

And the cockpit.

After a short connection it was then time to fly on ATA Airlines 737-800 N317TZ to Honolulu. Little did we know this was actually one of ATA’s last flights….they went bankrupt the day after. Only one shot from this flight as the Sun set soon after departure. This was a wingview just as we departed over Venice beach.

I hope you enjoyed this latest bunch, the Hawaiian interisland flights will be next.
