Round Wales with a DC-9 fuselage

Spotted this in the Daily Mail

The oddball Olympics: A wrecked jet dragged around Wales and a chunk of Norway floating to Britain… the arts festival tied into the Games that’s costing us £5.4m

The relevant bit being “Welsh winner Mark Rees has spent his £500,000 on an abandoned fuselage of a McDonnell Douglas DC-9 airliner, which he will take around the country on a trailer.

He said: ‘The day that this kind of extraordinary wingless creature comes into town and is nesting there for a period will stick in people’s memories so the Olympic Games will be the aeroplane.’

Question for our Welsh forum members – have you seen this aircraft anywhere in Wales yet? And any info on the ID of the DC-9? Where did they get it from? And what do they ultimately plan to do with the DC-9 when they’ve finished with it?

(I recall a Harrier and a Jaguar being hung in the Tate Modern a short while back…and those “works of art” ended up being scrapped – it seems the aircraft preservation and the art worlds don’t always mix!)
